More Hockey, more sun and always more to do!

The end of February, beginning of March has had some nice weather, some school fun and some more hockey!

Warm enough to ride bikes to and from school in February!
(I really love that we live close enough to the school to walk and ride bikes to school.  I enjoy spending the time with the boys, hearing all about Wil's day and that we can get some fresh air.  we are so fortunate, and even more so that we are able to do this in Feb. without freezing!)

Quiet morning doing "homework"
(working in some activity books)

We wore pink to help "Erase Bullying" and bring awareness

It is impossible to get a normal picture of this kid!

Love!

Wil's school hosted a family dance, complete with DJ's. lights and glow sticks! it was so fun!
(My dancing Machines)

Carson was all danced out, but still enjoyed watching the action
(a rare picture of Daddy!)

Another hockey tournament at WinSport (Canada Olympic Park)
(I don't have pictures of the actual hockey, it was a great game, but I have pictures of the "carnival" after.  Carson loves getting his face painted... a puppy and a cool spider on his hand!)

Tattoos

William's Tattoo

They had a trampoline

Mad Scientists and slime making

They also got to excavate fossils... they took this job very seriously
(they each got to take home a small container of shark teeth, ammonites, and other small fossils I can't remember the names of... sorry Uncle John)

We even went to the Mall afterwards because Chad wanted to shop for jeans... the kids needed to rest!

The day may have been too much for this little puppy....

I got him out of his carseat and into the house, where I put him here... poor tired Carson!

Another quiet morning.... Mondays we all need to recover from our weekends, so it is nice that we dont have to rush off anywhere until Wil goes to school after lunch.

A little lion
(they learned about Lions at preschool... cutest lion I have ever seen!)

Carson has been having some trouble with separation anxiety going to preschool (or any unparented activity), he gets fairly worked up the mornings before school and has a difficult time in the car... some days are better than others, and I think we are making progress, but it is a stage of his development that is challenging for me.  It breaks my heart to see him feeling sad/scared. They have assured me at school that he calms down almost instantly, and he always comes out of school smiling and happy, saying he loves school, so I know he is okay once he is inside.  This particular morning, Carson was having a bit of a hard time... Wil unbuckled himself (we were parked so it was safe) and gave Carson a pep talk and lots of reassuring hugs and kisses.  It was very sweet.  He is such a good big brother and he really loves Carson and wants to protect him.  Of course it made me a bit emotional!

That day they learned about Tigers... watch out for those claws!!
(This kid LOVES getting his face painted. Seriously. He loves it.)

Our last Hockey tournament
(Wil's turn in net)
(At the Lonely end of the rink)

Eatin' chips... as you do at hockey games!

The tournament was well run and had some fun games for the kids to play... here is some of the swag we won... a giant inflatable baseball bat, and beach ball, so of course they played ball... and some scary vampire teeth!

Last game of the season... Wil wanted to make a poster for his team!

My boys!
(Love them!)

Ready to cheer... showing off the prizes of the day

The picture is too far away so it's hard to see... but my guess is Chad is shedding a small tear at the end of the first hockey season!

My Timbit!

All of William's friends signed his poster, with their name and jersey number... so cute.

So proud of these two for their first hockey season.  Chad was a great coach and very dedicated, and Wil was an awesome little player.  He improved so much over the course of the season.  We all really enjoyed our first leap into the hockey world.

The sun was shining and the weather was beautiful so we went for a walk... Wil was "Sooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo exhausted" from hockey that he just couldnt walk.  He had to bring a pillow and wanted to just ride in the wagon.

Until he got to the paths and was "so excited because I just love this path so much" and he was running, jumping and exploring all over the place.

The weather has continued to be awesome this week so Carson and I are taking advantage too.  We walk William to school, then we head out on the path near our house that goes along the ridge over the river and into Fish Creek Park.  Then we head back to pick Wil up a few hours later.  It has been so nice.. especially considering it is only March and we do live in Calgary.
(He loves mud and puddles)

We discovered a random park
(Carson looks so HUGE in this swing)
(He likes the baby swing because he can "go as high as the birds" and not fall)

Apparently Carson also knows how to enjoy the good life.  He isn't sleeping, but he is definately enjoying the sunshine! I need to get an adult sized wagon and have someone pull me around!

Hockey is finished for a few weeks, until the spring league starts, and we have no other activities during that time.... hopefully the weather cooperates and spring is really here.  I am excited to have my mornings back so I can run outside again, and also so we can spend some quieter weekends just hanging around and being a bit less busy.

The (early) life of a Hockey Mom!

It's no secret that there are some hockey fans in this family, and some hockey players too.  The fact that William got his first set of sticks and nets when he was 3 months old should have given me a glimpse into what was to come.  From bob skates on the back yard rink at our old house, to all the nights spent at public skating and now skating on the lake, we are a family of skaters.  William is fully immersed (and almost finished) his first season of  Timbits hockey, and it has been quite the experience.  It is a big time commitment and involves early mornings and cold arenas, but we have been so fortunate to have met some really great families and had lots of fun along the way.  Carson has even made his own set of friends with all the other siblings.

Timbits is mostly made up of practices and scrimmages, not official games.  The focus is on skill development and not the "game" aspect of hockey.  They are able to play in a few tournaments over the course of the season, which are very entertaining, and we had an excellent Mom as our tournament coordinator and she got us in to some great ones... including one over the Family day weekend.. in Medicine Hat.  That's right, we travelled... for Timbits hockey.  This is not something I was expecting to happen so early in our hockey lives, but it was an excellent introduction to what is going to be many more of these little trips in our future... especially if Carson decides he wants to play too.

The tournament was about so much more than hockey, for the kids and for us adults.  I think the kids will remember the hotel waterslide and pool, and the pizza/movie party more than the actual hockey games, although those were great too.  They played their first full ice games, and all the kids did amazing.  We had no idea what to expect, but the kids stepped up, played really well and it was so fun to watch!

Both boys unpacked right away in the hotel... right into the dressers!

Wil and his best little hockey buddy before the first game
(these kids were so excited and a little wound up!)

Warming up!

Last little pep talk from the coaches
(the kids had to play without coaches on the ice during the game, something they were not used to. They also had to play positions, which they were also not used to. It was impressive how well they all adapted though.)

Wil taking his first face off!

Off they go!

Ready for another!

Superstar goalie!
(all the kids had a turn in net)
(he looks so small)

Making an awesome save!!

Handshake

There was a little poster for each team with all the kids' names on them... Wil found his name!

He's so handsome
(Our Valentine's lunch date)

Travelling, hockey, sleeping in a hotel, waterslides all morning and a lunch date... EXHAUSTING!  The kids needed a nap before the Saturday afternoon game!

Game Two... Carson discovered that the concession stand sold giant bags of candy for $1

Pajama Dance Party!
(We booked the hotel party room and had a pizza and movie party... these kids were the last ones standing... maybe because their parents were the ones still wanting to "play" too! Yes, both my kids are in there...)

Bow Valley Teal Timbits!
(Way to go team!)

Fun toys from our Wendy's lunch stop!

Hahahahaha!!

And done....
It was a whirlwind weekend and exhausting for everyone... but a great time!
