Corn Mazes and Trophies

This summer (between Ontario and Alberta) we have been to a lot of Corn Mazes and Fun Farms.... so much so, that I would say we are officially experts.  While there are still some untouched ones out here, we are regulars at the Calgary Corn Maze.  These places are great.  Animals to see and feed, lots of fun activities for the kids, tractor rides, bouncy pillows, mini golf, fresh air, dirt and popcorn! Here are some Corn Maze/Fun Farm highlights.

August Long weekend we went to the Lacombe Corn Maze and Family Farm.  Fabulous!

Dinosaur Mini Golf
(Wil is always excited about mini golf, and it needs to be the first thing he does!)

Carson was more interested in giving the dinosaurs kisses

Corn Face

Hooray!

We went with our cousins too!
(It was really hard to get a picture of these two together... you would think they were stubborn three year olds or something!!)

For a kid who hates to get dirty.... he loves the giant hill slide that is surrounded by dirt.... and gets literally filthy going on it over and over!

Our first Super Giant Pretzel
(Wil loved it and ate the whole thing!)

Finally.... way back on the August long weekend, we went to visit the grandparents in Red Deer.  It was a special weekend (not just because it was a holiday one) because we got to celebrate Grandma R's big award.  For those of you that don't know Em and Bill, they live on a small acreage in Red Deer county.  It not only has a beautiful house, a giant multi car garage (that Bill keeps stocked with classic cars he has rebuilt) that is a huge hit with any male that goes up there, and a meticulously maintained yard.  The Yard is Em's "baby" now that her real "babies" have left home.  She literally spends hours and hours and hours either working in the yard, planning what work to do in the yard, dreaming about the yard and then doing more work in the yard.  She works hard. This year, Em's yard was nominated for an award for county beautification in the category of small acreages (there were 6 categories in all).  Basically she was nominated for best yard/property along with a bunch of others.  Two tour buses came full of people to check out her yard and to walk around, then vote on which one was the best.  There was a ceremony, and sadly, in the small acreage category, she did not win.  Feeling defeated and a bit upset, Em sat through the rest of the awards.  Finally the end was near, and the only one left was the Cliff Doan award, this is the award for the overall winner.  Out of all 6 categories, all properties nominated, everyone.... and she won!  Em was quite surprised (none of us were really, her yard is truly amazing and she deserved to win), and obviously very proud and excited.  This is quite a big deal and so nice for her to be recognized for all her hard work and dedication to her yard.  Congrats again Em!

This picture makes me laugh with Wil creeping in the background in the tree
Grandma with her trophy, her name goes on one of the plaques, and she gets to keep it for the year.
(Like the Stanley Cup of Yard trophies!!)
